MTV Pimp My...

...Ride Rig...

Ok, so I'm getting sick of my Celeron D...

I like this board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157097

Mostly because A) my HD array is still on ATA-133 and B) I have TCCD RAM that I don't feel needs replacing (we're gonna ignore the whole: having a 6800GT that I can't afford to replace/don't want to replace aspect)

But I can't decide on a processor, newegg has an FX-55 for $139.99, no HSF, a 3700 for about $89, a 3800 for about $92, and opty's in between that

I know the 165 is the standard suggestion, I know the OC'ing ability, the dual core, etc, but $160 is just a bit much to be spending on a processor (the reason I'm upgrading is to get a PCIe slot, basically)

My other option is to buy this dude that I know's P4 3GHZ Northy, has HT, don't know anything else about it, and it's compatable with my current system, he wants "like $20" for it, so it would be a cheap upgrade, my qualm is that it doesn't have SSE3, which I know is going to move into use over the next year~, so...

With the 939 box, I have PCIe, and about the same performance as the P4, and with the P4 i get a performance boost but no gain features wise, just more powa...

Basically, would it be more logical to get the P4 (or just not upgrade) and keep waiting, or would you jump onto the start of an upgrade chain now?

I say that if your basically doing it just for the VC upgrade path then get the mobo and the 3700+ at best. That should suit you just fine.
