| TheOverclocked.com | Laptop: PC or Apple I've ashamed to say it, but I'm looking into apple lappys. They are looking better and better every day. I realized I need a decent lappy with school and all so I think it may be time to purchase. Now the decision, a PC or a Apple? I want a 17" or bigger monitor, 120gb+/7200rpm HDD, 1gb+ RAM, Intel CPU, and a good battery. Best quality for the best price. Probably looking to spend $1500 tops if possible. 9/10 chance I'll be on linux the whole time with it so that's why Apple is a choice here. Thanks, Jordan EDIT: meh, just looked at apple. If I want a mac book pro, 17" I'm looking at $2600, yuck. | ||||

| wtf is made the cut? | Well what are you going to do with it? Personally I'd go with PC, just because I don't like apple. They're really actually nice laptops, if you've ever used them. As far as I can say, you should just go with whichever is cheaper. | ||||

| wtf is made the cut? | Yeah, Macs get costly, but that's what you get. -edit- If you find the right laptop for you, can you send me a link to it. I need one, and my requirements are practically the same as yours ( although I'd prefer 2G ram, and DEFINATELY an Nvidia card, as ATI </3 linux) Last edited by OmgWtfIDiedLol : 08-29-2006 at 12:27 AM. | ||||

| Member | I'd say go for the Apple, but the main thing that makes Apples superior is the OS. With Linux, it just depends on the best hardware you can get in your budget. __________________ | ||||

My sister got an Emachines (eh I know, but their lappys are MUCH better then their desktops) AMD 2500-M, 1gb (iirc), 15" widescreen, can't remember specs exactly for sure, when she went off to college. Now, in her 3rd year, she has an apt with her boyfriend and the lappy is used as a DTR. She is always complaining about things with it like how slow it is (non-cut XP, what do you expect?) so I've been telling her I might be able to just build her a desktop for almost nothing. I have like 4 dedicated folders that I could make one into a nice desktop. I have an AMD 1700+ in one, which would work nicely. I have 1gb of ram brand new Gskill that I bought for something a while back and never used. $100 so it's not too bad. It's not what I wanted per the specs above, but if I bargin her a desktop and she gives me her lappy, that may just work out nicely With some linux on there it will speed things up a bit and it should be pretty good for what I need to do.Quote:

| The New Robster Associate ![]() Posts: 473 Location: Ohio | I would pick up one of those mac books, my grandma got one and I am pretty impressed with it. They have a few improvements over the ibook, that I have noticed. My aunt just picked up one of the black mac books and it is pretty slick, decent speed for a lappy with a gig of ram. __________________ Q6600 G0 DFI Lanparty UT P35 TR2 EVGA 8800GT SC Edition G.Skill 2x2GB HK's 2x WD 3200AAKS Raid 0 CM Stacker 830 BenQ 24" lcd Laptop- 17" Powerbook G4, 1.5gb ram, Leopard | ||||
